Kayak Rigging

Did a little rigging on my kayak this evening. Nothing revolutionary, just a couple of rod holders added to the crate in back. My kayak came with built in rod holders but the rods would stick out at an odd angle and get caught in various obstructions while fishing. I think having them stored vertically will be much less of a hassle.

I also took a picture of my setup for storing my yak. Probably not the best idea to hang the thing from the ends but it works, it's out of the way and it was easy to install. Just a couple of those big self tapping hooks used for storing bikes (good for 150 lbs) and a couple of quick release nylon straps (the same ones I use to secure the yak to the trailer) and you're done.

Anchor trolley install should be next. I'll put up some pictures of that as well. If anyone knows of any good kayak fishing sites let me know, especially in this area. I've already linked to BCKFC.

check this site out. I found this topic on the TKF forum that touches on hanging a yak. http://www.texaskayakfisherman.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=73892&highlight=pully

I thought about a pulley system as well but don't have the time, money and effort to go through all that. Right now I've got similar to your pictures but used hooks and 2 ratchet tie downs w/ some foam pads ( i think those pool noodles would work perfect).

I thought maybe i was thinking too much about it. How about installing a basic wall shelf to rest the kayak on? seems like it would be much easier to slide it onto or off of the shelf

I picked up a bicycle pulley system at Harbor freight in Lafayette for $10 a few months ago.

It looks like it would work for a yak. I haven't rigged it up yet though. I've just been locking the yak to the trailer outside.

On another note, I've got a friend who just picked up a sweet 14.5' native watercraft ultimate angler. He may join LKFC.

man that is a sweet ride. someone from rayne joined last week. may have been him... i need to get the "wife" her own kayak. I'm eyeing the ultimate. have you checked out the new leg-propelled ultimate?

That pulley system looks awesome. are you thinking of rigging up a couple of staps around the kayak and then hooking the pulley system?

I've seen the "pedal" ultimate on the web but not in person.

I'm not sure how (or if) I'm going to rig the pulley system yet. Too many other projects right now.

Did anyone go to Big Lake this past weekend? I didn't see any posts or pics on the LKFC site.
